If Kern Frost’s AI is truly conscious it forces us to rethink centuries old philosophical debates about the mind. Consciousness in humans is still not fully understood so how can we be certain when it emerges in machines? What intrigues me most is the possibility that an AI’s self-awareness might be fundamentally different from ours shaped by code and data instead of biology and sensory experience. Could such a consciousness ever experience emotions creativity or moral responsibility or would it be something entirely alien to us?
