Insilico Medicine recently introduced a new tool called PandaClaw. This feature is part of their PandaOmics software and uses generative artificial intelligence (AI).

PandaClaw acts as an AI agent to help with drug discovery. Usually, scientists need to be experts in both biology and computer science to use these advanced systems. However, PandaClaw allows biologists to perform complex research using a natural language interface. This means they can give the computer instructions in plain English instead of writing code.

The system works by automating bioinformatics. It looks for new targets, which are specific molecules in the body that a drug is designed to change. It also helps identify new indications, which are specific diseases that a medicine could potentially treat. The tool uses a core logic system that thinks like a human scientist, a large collection of organized data, and a library of over one thousand digital tools. It can look at multi-omics data, which means it examines many different types of biological molecules, such as DNA and proteins, all at once.

The function and efficiency of autonomous biological agents

When a researcher asks a question, the software creates a multi-step plan to find the answer. It gathers information from internal databases and public records. To ensure the results are accurate, the system automatically checks its own work for errors in a secure digital environment. Finally, it produces a detailed report with charts and explanations.

Previous versions of this technology helped find targets and read scientific papers. PandaClaw is the most advanced version because it can perform tasks on its own and explain why the results are important. Using these methods, the preclinical stage of research becomes faster. While the work normally takes over four years, these new methods have reduced the time to between twelve and eighteen months. According to Insilico, this software represents a step forward in making expert-level scientific analysis available to more people, allowing scientists to find potential new treatments much more quickly and with fewer failed experiments.
